A new partnership with Camões, I.P. and Porto Editora brings innovative digital learning resources to Escola Luís de Camões, creating new opportunities for students and teachers.
On October 17, 2026, Escola Luís de Camões, an educational institution of Sport Club Português in Newark, New Jersey, signed a Cooperation Agreement with Camões – Institute for Cooperation and Language (Camões, I.P.), introducing the Português Mais Perto digital learning platform, developed by Porto Editora.
The initiative represents an important step in enhancing Portuguese language education by combining classroom instruction with modern digital resources.

New Learning Opportunities for Students
Through this partnership, the school will receive 54 student licenses, initially allocated to selected students in more advanced Portuguese language classes.
The Português Mais Perto platform offers interactive exercises, multimedia content, and digital learning activities designed to reinforce classroom lessons and encourage independent practice.
For students growing up in the United States, these resources provide additional opportunities to develop vocabulary, improve comprehension, and build confidence using Portuguese beyond the classroom.
Supporting Teachers Across the School
A particularly valuable aspect of the agreement is the inclusion of 11 teacher licenses, giving the entire teaching team access to the platform.
Although student access will initially focus on selected advanced classes, every teacher will be able to explore the available educational materials and identify ways to incorporate them into classroom activities starting this school year.
Teachers will also receive training on the platform, creating opportunities to introduce new teaching approaches, share resources, and develop more engaging lessons.
By providing access to all teachers, the benefits of this initiative can extend well beyond the students participating in the initial rollout.
The school will evaluate the platform’s use throughout the 2026–2027 academic year to help guide future educational initiatives.
A Partnership That Strengthens Our School

The agreement was signed by João Serrão Lopes, Consul General of Portugal in Newark, representing Camões, I.P., and Alexandra Farela, Academic Director of Escola Luís de Camões, representing the school.
Also present were Carla Silva, Deputy Coordinator of Portuguese Education in the United States (CEPE-EUA), and Jack Costa, School advisor and Sport Club Português General Assembly President.
Made possible through the collaboration between Camões, I.P. and Porto Editora, the agreement provides 54 student licenses and 11 teacher licenses at no cost for the 2026–2027 academic year.
Building on Sport Club Português’ Mission
Founded in Newark in 1921, Sport Club Português has long been committed to promoting Portuguese language, culture, and education within the community.
As one of the organization’s educational institutions, Escola Luís de Camões plays a central role in fulfilling these objectives. Today, the school serves approximately 280 students across its Newark and Warren campuses, continuing a tradition of Portuguese language education spanning more than 90 years.
This partnership reflects Sport Club Português’ ongoing commitment to investing in education, supporting teachers, and providing new generations with meaningful opportunities to learn Portuguese.
Escola Luís de Camões extends its sincere appreciation to Camões, I.P., CEPE-EUA, the Consulate General of Portugal in Newark, and Porto Editora for making this initiative possible.
With dedicated teachers, strong institutional partnerships, and a commitment to continuous improvement, Escola Luís de Camões continues to build on its history while embracing the future of Portuguese language education.
