Escola Luís de Camões Welcomes Dr. Carla Gomes da Silva

On Saturday, October 3, Escola Luís de Camões welcomed Dr. Carla Gomes da Silva, Deputy Coordinator for Portuguese Education in Newark/New York (CEPE-USA), to its Newark campus. Dr. Gomes da Silva recently assumed this role.

The visit provided an opportunity to present the work currently being carried out at our Newark and Warren campuses, discuss the school’s main challenges, and exchange ideas on ways to strengthen collaboration between our institutions.

We also highlighted the growing interest among families in Portuguese language education. More and more parents are seeking opportunities for their children to learn Portuguese and maintain a strong connection to their culture and heritage. This growing demand makes the mission of both Escola Luís de Camões and CEPE-USA even more important.

During the meeting, we discussed teacher support, educational resources, student enrollment growth, and opportunities to continue strengthening Portuguese language education in our communities.

Escola Luís de Camões maintains a cooperation agreement with Camões – Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua, I.P., an important partnership that supports and promotes Portuguese education abroad.

We thank Dr. Carla Gomes da Silva for her visit, her openness, and the constructive dialogue. We look forward to continuing to work together to create more opportunities for future generations to learn, speak, and value the Portuguese language.
