Escola Luís de Camões Organization Update

With renewed leadership at Sport Club Português, new volunteers stepping forward, and continued support from key school leaders, Escola Luís de Camões begins an important new phase of organization, collaboration, and community involvement.

We are pleased to share an important and very positive update with the entire Escola Luís de Camões community.

After nearly two years without a Board of Directors, Sport Club Português successfully held elections and inaugurated its new Board this past January. This was a meaningful and long-awaited moment for the organization, marking the beginning of a new chapter built on renewed leadership, structure, and support for the many areas that are so important to our community.

For Escola Luís de Camões, this development is especially significant. As part of this new phase, the school now has two official directors serving as Board members responsible for supporting the school’s day-to-day needs, long-term development, and continued success. We are proud to announce that Isabel Manata and Tiffanny Callahan have officially assumed the role of Directors of Escola Luís de Camões.

Their appointment represents an important step forward for the school. With dedicated directors now in place, Escola Luís de Camões is in a stronger position to continue growing, to better support students and families, and to strengthen the organization behind the many activities and responsibilities that make the school thrive.

At the same time, it is equally important to highlight the continuity of key roles that remain central to the school’s success. Teacher Alexandra Farela continues in her role as Curriculum Coordinator, maintaining responsibility for the school’s academic coordination and oversight of teaching across Escola Luís de Camões. Her continued leadership in this area is an essential part of ensuring consistency, quality, and a strong educational foundation for our students.

We are also pleased to share that Jack Costa remains President of the General Assembly of Sport Club Português and will continue to support the school in an advisory role. His ongoing involvement provides valuable continuity, guidance, and support as the school moves into this new phase of growth and organization.

Just as importantly, this new structure is already creating space for greater community involvement. Around the new directors, the school has begun forming committees to help support key areas of its work, including communications, cultural events, finance, and other important areas that we expect to continue expanding over time. These committees will play an essential role in helping the school become even more organized, collaborative, and responsive to the needs of our families and students.

This is also an exciting moment because new volunteers have started to get involved. Their willingness to step forward reflects the shared commitment that so many in our community feel toward preserving and strengthening Portuguese language and culture for the next generation. Schools like ours grow stronger when families, volunteers, teachers, and leadership work together with a common purpose.

Parent and community involvement will continue to be one of the keys to our success. We warmly encourage all parents to get to know Isabel and Tiffanny, speak with them, share ideas, and consider volunteering in one of the school’s committees. Whether through helping with events, supporting communications, contributing ideas, or offering time and talent in other ways, every contribution can make a meaningful difference.

This renewed organization at the school is part of the broader leadership now in place at Sport Club Português under the direction of President Pedro Pires, whose administration is helping bring renewed energy and structure to the club and its departments.

As we move forward, we do so with optimism and gratitude — grateful for the volunteers who are stepping in, for the families who continue to support our mission, and for the leadership now in place to help guide the school into the future. With strong academic coordination, committed directors, continued advisory support, and growing community involvement, Escola Luís de Camões is well positioned for this next chapter.

We look forward to continuing to build, together, an even stronger future for Escola Luís de Camões.
