Greetings Luis de Camões School Community,
On Tuesday, October 17, the Luis de Camões School Scholarship Awards Ceremony unfolded at the Sport Club Portuguese hall, a night brimming with pride, promise, and celebration. This year, 29 deserving scholarships were bestowed upon our dedicated students, hailing from both our Newark and Warren campuses. This cherished tradition, spanning over two decades, serves as a testament to the enduring commitment of our community to the propagation of the Portuguese language.
Year after year, local businesses step up to sponsor these scholarships, fortifying our mission to extend the reach of the Portuguese language to more families. The process begins with the school opening registration, affording families the opportunity to apply for these invaluable scholarships.
The evening was graced by the presence of our cherished parents, dedicated students, esteemed teachers, generous sponsors, and a special guest, East Ward Councilman Michael Silva. Together, we stood united in celebration of our students’ accomplishments and aspirations.
Our MCs, Carlos Couto and Jack Costa, kicked off the event with an invigorating opening statement, setting the tone for an evening of festivity and recognition. This was followed by poignant remarks from the President of Sport Club Portuguese, Helena Vinhas, and Councilman Michael Silva, highlighting the enduring spirit of our community.
Jack Costa shared a pivotal update on the school, the grand reopening of our Warren campus. This monumental achievement has allowed us to double our student body and reintegrate with a Warren community that eagerly awaited our return since our temporary closure in 2020. This milestone strengthens our resolve to continue flourishing as a beacon of Portuguese language education.
As we look ahead, we are thrilled to announce that scholarship applications for the next academic year will open in May 2024, providing yet another opportunity for our students to shine.
